Tips for using our online store
Welcome. If you’re used to online purchases, you may not need these tips – you’ll most likely find our online store smooth sailing.
However, if you think some guidance could help, we hope these tips may be useful.
And if an online purchase is not for you (or you just want to talk to a real human), please get in touch in person at the shop, or by phone or email (we’re here 7 days a week).
What is the online store?
All the books on this website are part of our online store. You can click on the book to get more information about it, and then decide if you want to purchase it.
What books are on this website?
All the books we stock in the bookshop are on this website (about 10,000 all up). Our books are mix of new releases, general fiction, classics and books on wide range of topics (politics, history, music, biography etc). We hope you like the selection.
How many books can I purchase at a time?
As many as you like.
What’s the difference between ‘Click and Collect’ and ‘Add to Cart’?
‘Click and Collect’ is a fast and easy option for reserving a book. It doesn’t involve an online payment – you pay for it when you pick it up from the shop.
‘Add to Cart’ allows you to purchase the book online. You can choose to have it mailed to you (or someone else), or to pick it up from the shop.
What do ‘add to wishlist’ or ‘notify me’ mean?
‘Add to wishlist’ lets you keep a list of books you’re interested in. You can just leave the books on your list, or make a purchase when you’re ready.
A ‘notify me’ label on a book means it’s not currently in stock. If you click on ‘notify me’ we’ll let you know when it’s back in stock.
What is the first step in purchasing a book?
Choose your book, add it to the cart, and then proceed to checkout. If you’re a new customer, you’ll need to fill out “New Customer: Register Now” – it’s quick and simple. Make a note of your password: you’ll need it next time when you login as an existing customer.
What does “shipping address” mean?
The shipping address is where you want us to send your book. If we’re sending it to you, it’s your home address. If you want us to send the book to someone else (e.g. as a gift), enter their name and address as the shipping address.
Do you gift wrap online purchases?
Yes! If you’d like us to do this – and/ or include a note for the recipient, just let us know in the ‘notes’ box (top right of the page).
How are my books delivered to me?
You can pick up your books at the shop, or we’ll mail them to the shipping address you specify. We use Australia Post for shipping. Choose your preference in the ‘Delivery Options’ step.
What are the shipping rates?
The online store will calculate the postage for you. Standard mail is $4.50 for the first book and $3 each subsequent book. Postage for purchases over $75 is free. We also ship by express post: $15 for up to 3kg, and $20 for over 3kg. Please select the one you think fairly represents your purchase!
Do you ship to New Zealand and internationally?
Yes! Shipping for NZ is $12 for standard mail. If you’d like express, please email us. We also ship to other international destinations, but please email us for this.
What are my payment options?
You can pay by credit card, debit card, or direct deposit – or if someone has given you a Paperback gift voucher, you can use that.
How do I pay by direct deposit?
Go through the normal purchasing process. At the final step you will be given the Paperback’s BSB number and account number to make your deposit. Just remember that you’ll then need to go to your bank account and make the payment using these details.
Why can’t I complete my purchase?
This may be because you haven’t clicked on the ‘I am not a robot’ and/ or ‘accept terms and conditions’ boxes. If the latter, you’ll need to go back a step and re-enter your payment details (and details of your note if applicable) and then click on the boxes.
How do I use my Paperback Bookshop gift voucher to pay?
Go through the normal purchasing process. At the final step enter the numbers on your gift voucher, including the security code. If the purchase price is more than your voucher, you can pay the difference on your credit card.
