The Last Word

Author(s): Jenny Chantry & Mike McKay

Humour

When a husband and wife take early retirement, they plan to travel and cook and do all the fun things they never had time to do. They certainly don't count on the difficulties retirement brings. But, with time hanging heavy on his hands, the husband now spends his day cataloguing the junk mail, alphabetising the recycling bins, warding off his own ageing parents' helpful suggestions about how he can occupy himself and driving his wife absolutely batty. A truly delightful and insightful read that captures the plight of a generation! He will need to watch the wife in the period leading up to his birthday. She might just think it's a good idea to buy him a handyperson's short course or a toolbox. In the mood she's in today she'd probably like to get an industrial strength drill and point him in the direction of a wall full of live wires. He is convinced the wife would like to turn him into her father. On DIY TASKS He Says: I had no time back then so I had to delegate tasks to the wife or professionals. I'm still too busy. She Says: He had no interest then and no skill. It's the same today.Author information: Jenny and Mike sold their house in the suburbs when their children moved out of home and moved to a groovy inner-city Melbourne apartment, just next to the Queen Victoria Market. They are both retired and travel whenever they can This is their first book.
